To accompany our Parish Profile, we'd love to share a few details about this great opportunity in our exciting parish — in the heart of Lancashire.
We are looking for a minister to share our vision of growing as a parish, spiritually and prayerfully.
There are three centres of worship, each with a growing prayerful community and each with a differing liturgical tradition — from traditional Anglicanism with choir and organ music, to totally informal worship with all the words on screens and music led by keyboard, guitar and drums.
We are an active, welcoming parish located in an attractive part of Lancashire, on the edge of farmland and open moorland. There is a mixture of housing types within the parish.
During the interregnum our focus has been mission; our desire is to reach out to new families.
We are hoping to welcome a new incumbent who is a warm and inspiring communicator, who can apply the Scriptures to the everyday lives of people of all ages, and will join us in our spiritual journey together — continuing the established evangelical tradition in the parish.
We have strong local leadership, including a Parish Leadership Team, which will provide support and encouragement to our new incumbent.
The three buildings differ, each with its own character and community.
A traditional Victorian building.
Purpose-built, modern and versatile, with a large surfaced car park. The building is well used by church and community groups, and there is a "Reflective Garden" enjoyed by parishioners and the local community.
A re-ordered building with a cleared chancel platform incorporating flexible liturgical furniture, a nave with pews removed, a brand new heating system and a raised sound desk (there are no aisles). In the cellar there is a fully-equipped youth club.
An excellent five-bedroomed family house with a separate study/office. The main rooms are south-facing, overlooking a manageable garden with countryside beyond.
We have strong links with three primary schools in the parish — church schools at Holcombe and Hawkshaw working closely together, and the local authority Holcombe Brook Primary, which welcomes our Open the Book team each week. We invite all three primary schools to Experience Christmas and Easter in our churches.
For older children there are church secondary schools available — Canon Slade and Bury Church High School.
The whole parish has been celebrating 50 years of Canon Lewis Hall (based at Emmanuel Church Centre), holding at least two events each month, bringing both church and local people together.
